Our story
It started with three children, a few questions, and a simple wish to make a difference.
During a visit to London with their parents, Tilli, Beau and Zane noticed people, young and old, living and sleeping on the streets.
They began asking questions. Why don’t they have homes? Where do they go to sleep? Why isn’t anyone helping them? Can we take them home with us?
As their parents helped them understand how people can find themselves in these situations, the children noticed something else. Many of the people they saw seemed forgotten, overlooked and disconnected from the world around them. But these weren't just people sleeping on the streets. They were someone's son, daughter, brother, sister, mother or father. People with stories, feelings and lives of their own.
All the children wanted to do was make them smile. And so, with that one simple comment Bag a Smile was born.
What started as a simple idea has grown into a bigger ambition: to bring people together through small acts of kindness, remind those who may feel forgotten that they matter, and create a ripple effect of generosity that reaches far beyond a single bag.
Because sometimes, the smallest gesture can make the biggest difference.

Our idea
Bag a Smile is a simple idea with a powerful purpose: encourage people to fill a bag with thoughtful gifts and give it to someone who could use a little help, hope or happiness.
It might be food and warm socks for someone experiencing homelessness. A book for a friend recovering from illness. A thoughtful gift for a lonely neighbour. Or something comforting for a family facing difficult circumstances.
The possibilities are endless. What matters most isn't what's inside the bag, but the thought, kindness and care behind it.
And Bag a Smile isn't just about helping people in crisis. It's about recognising the people around us who might be struggling, feeling isolated or simply needing a reminder that they're not alone.
